Our Pastor

Deborah Moon

Deborah Moon

I was born and raised in Guntersville, Al. by my mom, with 2 older sisters and one older brother. After graduating from Guntersville High School, I attended Troy University on a music scholarship and graduated in 3 years with a B.S. in Education and a minor in music.

I coached girls varsity basketball, girls track, and softball for 7 years in Selma, AL. in the Dallas County System at Shiloh Junior High School, and at Morgan Academy. Before leaving the Selma area in 1990, I also worked at Hammer Mill Papers Company and the Alabama Sheriff’s Boys Ranch. In June of 1990 I moved home to Guntersville to become the primary care giver for my mom. I worked at the Comptronix Corporation as a buyer, planner, troubleshooter, and supervisor.

As a hobby and recreation opportunity, I shoot World Championship Archery on the Wayne Pearson ESPN Outdoor Tournament Trail 1992-1995. In order to have more flexibility for checking in on my mom during the day, I began selling Real Estate in 2000. December 2002, I said yes to God’s call into full-time ministry and started seminary at Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, Kentucky the fall of 2003.

After my mom’s death in September 2004, I became a full-time student and continued working as an appointed associate pastor by the North Alabama Conference at Guntersville FUMC. In August 2006, I became the pastor of “Genesis,” the off campus ministry site of Guntersville FUMC, and became the senior pastor at Goshen UMC June 15, 2008. At present, I am continuing the ordination track of elder in the United Methodist Church. My hobbies include, fishing, hunting, golfing, archery, horse back trail riding/camping, SEC football, Braves baseball, theatre, gardening, cooking, and old western movies. My goal in life is to share my friend Jesus with as many people as He brings across my path, and to love God with all that I am.
